As part of the Municipality of Leamington’s continued effort to improve infrastructure and modernize essential services, the next step in the Sewer Separation and Road Reconstruction Program will take place on Margaret Street, Audrey Street, Jane Street, Claire Street, and Sherk Street.

Project Overview

The work includes:

  • Installation of new sanitary and storm sewers
  • Installation of a new watermain and water services to the property line
  • Street lighting upgrades for improved safety and visibility
  • Full road reconstruction, including removal of the existing roadway, new asphalt, and the addition of new sidewalks

When complete, residents and businesses will benefit from safer, more reliable infrastructure and improved neighbourhood streets.

This project is partly funded through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program - Green Infrastructure Stream.

    The Municipality of Leamington is providing the following update on the sewer separation and road reconstruction work underway in the Margaret, Audrey, Jane, Claire, and Sherk Street areas.

    Sherk Street – Current Status

    • Sherk Street is open to traffic.

    • Short, intermittent lane closures may occur to accommodate remaining work, including the installation of pedestrian crossings and other final improvements.

    Margaret & Audrey Streets – Current Status

    • All sewer work on Margaret and Audrey Streets is now complete.

    Paving is scheduled for December 11-12, 2025 (weather permitting).

    • Driveways will be restored with temporary asphalt for the winter, with concrete replacement planned for spring 2026.

    Winter Pause

    Once the above work is completed, the project will pause for the winter months.

    Jane & Claire Streets – Upcoming Work

    • Sewer separation work on Jane and Claire Streets is scheduled to begin in late March or early April 2026.

    • Sewer installation on both streets is expected to be completed by mid-May 2026.

    • A final layer of asphalt over the entire project area is planned for June 2026, weather permitting.

    Please note that the Municipality does its best to provide accurate timelines; however, all timelines are estimates and may change depending on weather and site conditions.

    Line painting will take place today, November 27, and tomorrow, November 28, on Sherk Street between Ellison Avenue and Seacliff Drive. Intermittent lane closures will be in effect throughout the work period. Emergency access will be maintained at all times.

    Please plan an alternate route where possible, expect delays, and use caution when driving through the area to help keep workers safe.

    Paving work on Sherk Street is scheduled to begin Thursday, November 20, 2025, as part of the ongoing area sewer separation and road reconstruction project.

    To safely complete this work, the intersection of Sherk Street and Ellison Avenue will be closed for the day, following the morning bus routes. Motorists are asked to plan ahead and use alternative routes.

    Line painting is scheduled for Monday, November 24, 2025 (weather permitting) and is expected to take approximately two days. Upon completion of line painting, Sherk Street will reopen to traffic.

    As part of the Municipality of Leamington’s Sewer Separation and Road Reconstruction Program, work continues on Sherk Street and surrounding areas, including Margaret, Audrey, Jane, and Claire Streets.

    Sherk Street - Current Status

    • Sherk Street remains open from Oak Street to Ellison Avenue.
    • Sherk Street remains closed from Ellison Avenue to Seacliff Drive, with limited local access provided as needed.
    • Paving, originally scheduled for November 5, has been delayed and is now expected to take place on November 21, weather permitting.
    • Once paving is complete, Sherk Street (between Ellison Avenue and Seacliff Drive) will reopen to traffic for the remainder of the project.
    • Short, intermittent lane closures may occur following paving to accommodate remaining work, including the installation of pedestrian crossings and other final improvements.

    Once reopened, please drive carefully through the work zone and watch for workers and equipment.

    Margaret, Audrey, Jane & Claire Streets – Current Status

    Sewer separation work is progressing along Margaret, Audrey, Jane, and Claire Streets.
    These streets will be hard-surfaced for the winter months to ensure safe and manageable access.

    Due to ongoing construction activity in the area, the Municipality of Leamington will not be able to collect leaves by vacuum truck on Margaret, Audrey, Jane, and Claire Streets this season.

    Residents in these areas are asked to bag fallen leaves for pick-up on their regular yard waste collection dates.

    Please ensure leaves are placed in an acceptable yard waste container such as paper yard waste bags, reusable bins, or compostable containers. Plastic bags will not be accepted.

    Urban yard waste collection runs until November 28, 2025.

    The Municipality apologizes for any inconvenience and thanks residents for their patience and cooperation during the ongoing construction work.

    • Paving is expected to be completed by November 5, weather permitting.
    • Once paving is complete, Sherk Street, between Ellison Avenue and Seacliff Drive, will reopen to traffic for the remainder of the project.
    • Short-duration, intermittent lane closures may occur as the project progresses to accommodate remaining work, including installation of pedestrian crossings and other final improvements.

    Once Sherk Street reopens to one lane of traffic, please drive carefully through the work zone and watch for workers and equipment.
