The Municipality of Leamington is advancing the next phase of improvements to Seacliff Drive East, continuing the long-term renewal of this important corridor. Building on work completed in 2022, this phase of the project will focus on Seacliff Drive East between Regatta Drive and County Road 33 to support safer, more reliable infrastructure for the community.


Current Construction Stage

The project is currently in Stage 1 of construction, which includes work along Seacliff Drive East from Regatta Drive to the west side of Seneca Road.

During Stage 1:

  • Businesses and properties between Erie Street South and Regatta Drive are accessed via Erie Street South and Seacliff Drive East.

  • Businesses and properties between Seneca Road and County Road 33 are accessed via County Road 33 and Seacliff Drive East.

  • Left turns from County Road 33 to Mersea Road 1 remain available during this stage.

Further notifications will be shared as construction progresses and work moves into future stages.

Importantly, this project is part of the Northeast Trunk Sewer initiative, a major infrastructure investment that will support Leamington’s growth for decades to come. With over $41 million in provincial funding, the project will upgrade essential underground services, help enable up to 6,500 new homes, and support future jobs and economic development, all while reducing reliance on aging infrastructure.


What’s Included in This Project

This Seacliff Drive East reconstruction project will deliver major underground and surface upgrades to improve safety, accessibility, and long-term reliability, including:

  • New sanitary sewers from Peter Avenue to County Road 33
  • New storm sewers from the Selkirk Drain to County Road 33
  • New watermain from Regatta Drive to County Road 33
  • New street lighting along the corridor
  • New roadway curbs
  • New concrete sidewalks
  • A new County-Wide Active Transportation System (CWATS) multi-use pathway
  • New concrete pads and benches at various locations along the CWATS pathway
  • Realignment of Bevel Line
  • A new traffic signal at the realigned intersection of Peter Avenue/Bevel Line and Seacliff Drive East
  • New truck turning aprons
  • Extension of the north end of the Selkirk Drain box culvert.

Timing & Construction

Construction is anticipated to begin in early February 2026 and is expected to be completed in the fall of 2026, weather permitting.

    What to expect beginning May 19, 2026.

    • The section of Seacliff Drive East east of Bevel Line to County Road 33 will be closed to all traffic, for the duration of this phase of construction.
    • The section of Seacliff Drive East between Regatta Drive and Bevel Line will open to local traffic, with intermittent lane closures and delays expected.
    • Access to Seneca Road will change:
      1. Before May 19: Access from County Road 33 via Seacliff Drive East
      2. As of May 19: Access from Erie Street via Seacliff Drive East
    • Peter Avenue (between Seacliff Drive East and Christina Crescent) remains closed until approximately October 30, 2026, weather permitting.
    • Businesses within the construction zone remain open and accessible.
    • Residents and motorists must follow posted detour routes.

    Work includes:

    • Installation of new sanitary and storm sewers
    • New watermain installation
    • Construction of multi-use pathways
    • Roadway reconstruction, including curbs, sidewalks, and driveways

    • No through traffic will be permitted within the active work zone.
    • Local access will be maintained where possible for residents and businesses within the closure limits.
    • Businesses remain open, with access provided via posted detour routes.
    • Detour signage (D-1 and D-2 routes) will be installed in advance of the closure to allow drivers to plan alternate routes.

    Motorists are asked to follow all posted detour signs, reduce speed in construction areas, and plan for additional travel time.
