Seacliff Drive East Reconstruction Project

The Municipality of Leamington is advising residents and motorists of upcoming road closure changes for the Northeast Trunk Sewer and Seacliff Drive East Reconstruction Project.

Beginning Wednesday, July 8, 2026, construction will move into its next phase on Seacliff Drive East and County Road 33. New road closures will take effect as work progresses. Please follow the posted detour routes and allow extra travel time.

Open to Local Traffic: Seacliff Drive East: Regatta Drive to Bevel Line
Ongoing through August 31, 2026 (weather permitting)

This section of Seacliff Drive East will remain open to local traffic while construction continues.

Motorists should expect:

• Temporary lane closures and delays.
• Traffic controlled by flag persons.
• Occasional short-term restrictions to driveway access as work progresses.
• Continued access to homes and businesses whenever possible.

Motorists should continue to follow the posted detour route.

Road Closure: County Road 33 - Oak Street East to Seacliff Drive East

This section of County Road 33 will be closed to all traffic. All motorists must follow the posted detour routes.

Residents of Sunningdale Drive, Summerville Avenue, and Heathview Trail will access their neighbourhood via Clarence Avenue and Bennie Avenue during this closure.

Leamington, ON – May 14, 2026 – The Municipality of Leamington is advising residents and motorists of a revised construction schedule for the next phase of the Seacliff Drive East Reconstruction Project.

The full road closure on Seacliff Drive East between east of Bevel Line and west of County Road 33, previously scheduled to begin May 19, 2026, will now begin on May 26, 2026.

This closure is expected to remain in place until October 30, 2026, weather permitting.

What to expect beginning May 26, 2026

• The section of Seacliff Drive East, east of Bevel Line to west of County Road 33, will be closed to all traffic for the duration of this phase of construction.
  
  
• The section of Seacliff Drive East between Regatta Drive and east of Bevel Line will open to local traffic, with intermittent lane closures and delays expected.

• Peter Avenue (between Seacliff Drive East and Christina Crescent) remains closed until approximately October 30, 2026, weather permitting.

The Municipality of Leamington advises residents that Peter Avenue will be closed between Seacliff Drive East and Christina Crescent beginning April 29, 2026, as part of the Northeast Trunk Sewer and Seacliff Drive East Reconstruction Project.

The closure is expected to remain in place until October 30, 2026, weather permitting.

Work taking place on Peter Avenue includes:

• Installation of new sanitary and storm sewers
• Construction of new roadway curbs
• Installation of new concrete sidewalks
• Realignment of the Bevel Line intersection

Residents and businesses within the construction area will be required to use alternate routes during this work. Area businesses will remain open and accessible.

Construction zones present safety risks to both workers and the public. Residents are asked to maintain a safe distance from construction activities, equipment, and materials at all times.

The Municipality does its best to provide accurate timelines; however, all timelines are estimates and may change depending on weather, site conditions and the availability of construction materials.

As part of ongoing infrastructure improvements, the Municipality of Leamington is advancing the next phase of the Seacliff Drive East Reconstruction Project. During active construction, Seacliff Drive East will be closed to through traffic between Regatta Drive and Seneca Road, with work expected to begin in early February.

Stage 1 Construction Area and Access

The project is currently in Stage 1 of construction, which includes work along Seacliff Drive East from Regatta Drive to the west side of Seneca Road.

During Stage 1, access to businesses and properties will be maintained as follows:

• Businesses and properties between Erie Street South and Regatta Drive Access is available via Erie Street South and Seacliff Drive East.
• Businesses and properties between Seneca Road and County Road 33 Access is available via County Road 33 and Seacliff Drive East.
• Left turns from County Road 33 to Mersea Road 1 Left-turn movements will remain available during this construction stage.

Businesses within the project area will remain open and accessible throughout construction. Further notifications will be shared as construction progresses and work transitions into future stages.

Detours and Traffic Management

To safely accommodate construction, a signed detour route will be in place and clearly marked with orange construction and detour signage throughout the area. Detours will guide drivers around the closure using nearby collector and arterial roads.

What Drivers Can Expect

• No through traffic will be permitted within the active work zone.
• Local access will be maintained where possible for residents and businesses within the closure limits.
• Businesses remain open, with access provided via posted detour routes.
• Detour signage (D-1 and D-2 routes) will be installed in advance of the closure to allow drivers to plan alternate routes.

Motorists are asked to follow all posted detour signs, reduce speed in construction areas, and plan for additional travel time.

The Municipality of Leamington is moving forward with the next phase of improvements to Seacliff Drive East. Construction is expected to begin in early February 2026 and will result in traffic interruptions, including lane restrictions, delays, and temporary road closures within the project area.

The work will take place between Regatta Drive and County Road 33.

This project is a key component of the Northeast Trunk Sewer initiative, a transformational infrastructure project that will help shape Leamington’s growth over the next four decades. By upgrading critical underground services now, the Municipality is laying the foundation to support future residential development, employment lands, and economic growth in a planned, sustainable, and responsible manner. The initiative is supported by $41 million in provincial funding and will help unlock the potential for up to 6,500 new housing units, while reducing reliance on aging or limited servicing capacity.

Timing and Traffic Impacts

Construction is anticipated to begin in February 2026 and is expected to be completed by fall 2026, weather permitting. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area when possible and should expect traffic interruptions, including lane closures, delays, and temporary road closures throughout construction.
