Can I park my RV/Trailer/Boat in my driveway?
Parking is allowed between April 1 and October 31 each year. The RV/Trailer/Boat must be stored after October 31.
Can I park on the street in the winter?
Street parking is banned from November 1 through to and including March 31, between the hours of 2:00 AM and 6:00 AM. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) enforce this bylaw.
How long can my grass be?
Grass and weeds can not be taller than eight inches in height.
How long can I park my car uptown?
The uptown core is a two-hour parking zone where signs are posted. Parking for longer than two hours can result in fines and in some cases, your vehicle may be towed.
How do I know if a taxicab is legitimate?

Can I have unplated vehicles on my property?
Yes, so long as the vehicle is not wrecked, dismantled, discarded, abandoned, or inoperable.
Can I own farm animals (e.g. chickens, goats)?
Yes, but only If you live in an A1, A3 or A5 zone.

What is the maximum height I can build my fence?

Can I build a fence directly on my property line?
Yes, although this will have to be worked out with your neighbour. Please refer to Section 4.16 of the Zoning Bylaw here or contact us with any additional questions.
What happens if I need to complain about a dog barking?
When a complaint is received about a barking dog, the Bylaw department will first confirm if the dog is licenced. We will then send out a letter to the owner(s) and the resident(s) of the property, informing them of the noise complaint and educating them about our applicable bylaws. Animal control is then notified of the complaint. Should further issues arise, this Bylaw is enforced by the Ontario Provincial Police and Animal Control.
Does my pool need a permit?
In most cases yes, please contact the Building Department to see if your pool meets the requirements for a Pool Enclosure Permit.
Do I have to register my cat(s)?
No, cat owners in the Municipality of Leamington are not required to register/licence their cats.
What is being done about greenhouse light?
On December 8, 2020, Council passed By-law 79-20 being a by-law requiring the abatement of interior greenhouse light. Between January and March 2021, By-law Enforcement Officers proactively inspected for contraventions of this by-law.
As a result of those inspections, 23 sites were found to be in contravention; however, a number of those sites appeared to come into compliance with the by-law upon being contacted by officers. The By-law Enforcement Department continues to conduct periodic inspections and will also respond to any specific complaints received.
Using the evidence gathered from By-law Enforcement Officers, the Municipality’s Legal Department commenced applications to the Superior Court of Justice against eight greenhouse operators seeking an Order of the Court requiring that the sites in contravention be permanently restrained from using their grow lights other than in compliance with the By-law. A hearing may be required to obtain an Order of the Court as a result of the Applications. These proceedings are being held in abeyance because the Municipality received applications filed by ten greenhouse operators with the Normal Farm Practices Protection Board (“NFPPB”) seeking a determination by the NFPPB that the use of grow lights is a “normal farm practice” for the purposes of the non-application of the By-law. The Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers applied for and was granted party status in connection with all of the applications before the NFPPB. The hearings before the NFPPB have been scheduled to be heard in the summer of 2022 and will extend over the course of approximately three weeks. In response to these applications, the Municipality anticipates presenting evidence as to how greenhouse light impacts human health and the environment.
